NBC State Tournament Game 2 Apollos 8 Seguin Steelers 2 The Apollos found themselves in 1-0 hole after 4 innings, then in the 5th with one swing of the bat Bob Pfaff homered off the foul pole.
Then with two out Shane Klemcke singled, Robert Carroll and Andrew Dunn walked. Paul Johnson got the games biggest hit with a single to right field scoring Carroll and Klemcke this left the score 3-1. In the 7th Robert Carroll doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Andrew Dunn walked and setup a double steal with Robert Carroll stealing home. Seguin scored in the 6th leaving the score 4-2. In the 8th Abe Garcia singled, Bob Pfaff walked, Kyle Eaves singled, Jeremy Powell walked, pinch hitter Yudai Ogawa hit a sac fly. robert Carroll walked. Andrew Dunn dropped a single over the infield leaving the score 8-2. Luke Cowan started and pitched excellently for the Apollos. He pitched 6 innings allowing two runs, striking out 3 and walking 3. He got out of jams in 2nd, 3rd and 5th. Eric Faint came on to pitch the 7-8-9 innings striking out 4 and walking 3. The Apollos advance to championship round against Austin Gold Sox who beat Seguin later in the evening.
NBC State Tournament Game 1 Apollos 6 Austin Expos 1 The Apollos opened the state tournament for the 2nd year in a row against the Austin Expos. The Expos were much improved this year.
Chip Oliphant gave up 1 run in 5 innings of solid work for the win. Jeremy Powell pitched one inning of scoreless ball, and Chad Mattis came in and pitched 3 scoreless innings striking out 5 batters.
Offensively Andrew Dunn had three hits , three stolen bases, with two rbis and two runs. Yudai Ogawa had a key rbi in the first. Robert Carroll, Kyle Eaves and Bob Pfaff also had rbi's. The Apollos only had 8 hits as a team.

Katy Collegians 6 Apollos 5(11 innings).
The Apollos got off to a great start Andrew Dunn and Dane Yelovich each scored runs in the 1st
Mike Wilson started and threw 7 scoreless innings giving the Apollos a 2-0 lead into the 8th. Eric Faint came on to get out of two jams but the Collegians tied the game 2-2.
In the 11th the Apollos broke the game open, Kurt Parker hit a single in which Andrew Dunn scored from first catching the Collegians off guard, Yelovich then drove in Parker.
Bob Pfaff and Yelovich implemented a double steal leaving the score 5-2. There was no bullpen left in the 11th leaving the Apollos with Mike Estrada on the mound.
All the Apollos needed was 3 outs...Mike Estrada walked the first two batters, then Kurt Parker dropped a fly ball in right field. Estrada was removed for Bob Pfaff.. Pfaff walked a batter and the next batter doubled ending the game.
Giving the Collegians a 6-5 victory and the guarantee bid to Wichita in their first year. The Apollos will goto Wichita as league champions.
Houston NBC Regional Game 3
Apollos 7 LC Hornets 6 (11 innings). This turned out to be quite a bizzare night for baseball.
The Hornets lead the game the entire night and had two outs in the bottom of the night when Jeremy Powell hit a jam shot fly ball to the 2nd baseman.
The ball dropped and then the ball got away allowing the tieing runs to score.
The Hornets had very solid pitching all night. The Apollos had just 6 hits.
Andrew Dunn drew 4 walks. Kurt Parker started and was removed after allowing 4 runs in two innings.
Eric Faint came in and pitched very well for 3 innings.
Marcus Moore turned out to be the real story he came on in the 7th and pitched 4 scoreless innings in dominant fashion.
The Apollos got solid play for Matt Warren and Effran Gonzalez.
The key difference in the game may have been Dane Yelovich's 5th inning walk, he then stole 2nd, 3rd and home. he stole home on the throw back to the pitcher.

Katy Collegians 9 Apollos 5 Chad Mattis started the game and allowed 5 runs in the first inning, ending any chances the Apollos had.
He got one out and Jeremy Powell came in for relief and pitched a solid 6 innings allowing 4 runs.
The Apollos actually scored three runs in the 1st themselves.
But never could catch up after being in such a hole.

Apollos 8 Mykawa Hawks 0 Luke Cowan threw 6 shutout innings
Aaron Varnum threw 1 scoreless inning. Offensively the Apollos chipped away at the Hawks scoring 1 in the first 2 in the second.
the offense was lead by Dane Yelovich, Matt Warren and Anthony Phillips.
Game 18 Apollos 8 LC Hornets 5 This was supposed to be league championship game but the Apollos had a 3 game lead on Hornets. The Apollos pitched Jake Cowan for 4 innings and he completely dominated Hornets hitters allowing only 1 run. The Apollos then went to Eric Faint in the 5th. However he got into a collision and was briefly knocked out of the game.
He then started uncharactericly walking batters and the Hornets built a 5-3 lead going into the top of the 7th. The Hornets went to their closer who gave up two hits, got two outs then walked 5 consective batters to tie the game, Alex Ruiz drew a key 3-2 walk then gave up a hit to Kyle Eaves which scored two more guys giving the Apollos a 8-5 lead. They trailed 5-3 in the top of 7th with 2 outs. The Apollos would get three outs and set a team record by going 15-1-2 in the regular season, passing the 14-2 mark set by the 2004 club. Eric Faint was named team MVP.
Game 17 Apollos 8 Mykawa Hawks 3 The Apollos struggled a little bit with the Hawks, Andrew Dunn drove in 3 runs with two hits, but Bob Pfaff was knocked around again by the Hawks.. The Apollos broke the game open and clinched the regular season championship with this win
Game 16 Apollos 14 Bayou City Bears 0 The Apollos scored 6 runs in the top of the first and the Bears completely ran out of pitching in this game.
Game 15 Apollos 6 Bayou City Bears 0 The Apollos finally knocked the Bears starter out of the game in a close 6-0 game, Dane Yelovich had two hits and scored 2 runs. Kyle Eaves had two hits.
Game 14 Apollos 8 Westchase Express 0 The Apollos blew out Westchase Express to give them a 3-0-1 record for the weekend. Chad Mattis pitched well and Andrew Dunn and Kyle Eaves lead the Apollos in hitting.
Game 13 Apollos 4 Westchase Express 4
The Apollos nearly cost themselves majorly in standing against Westchase Express.. Paul Johnson and Andrew Dunn scored all 4 runs, and westchase knocked Bob Pfaff out of the game.
Westchase threw their #1 pitcher a lefty with a good changeup, he held the Apollos down, but got major help from his centerfielder who made 4 game saving catches. He dove for balls that would have been inside the park homers had he missed and caught all 4 of them.
The Apollos were forced to use Eric Faint in a 4-4 game in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings. The game went 8 innings but ended in a tie.

The Apollos beat the Hawks 10-2 with Casey Newman on the mound.

The Apollos beat the Hawks 18 to 1 behind home runs from Abe Garcia, Dane Yelovich, Derek David and numerous hits from everyone.
Game 10 Apollos 4 Pearland Diamondbacks 3
In the first inning Andrew Dunn beat out an infield single, stole 2nd and was driven in by Dane Yelovich's single.
Bob Pfaff homered in the 4th, the Apollos loaded the bases in the 5th and Bob Pfaff drew a walk tying the game, Abe Garcia sac fly was the game winning run.
The Apollos sent Bob Pfaff to the mound who gave up three runs in 4 innings after a key error by Kyle Eaves and several key hits.
Chip Oliphant threw 2 scoreless innings and was left to finish the game in the 7th but walked two batters. Eric Faint came on and struck out the final to batters to record the save and sweep the Diamondbacks
Game 9 Apollos 10 Pearland Diamondbacks 2 Chad Mattis started this game and continues to have problems with the Hot Texas Humditiy.
He was removed after 4 innings of work. Eric Faint came into the game with the score 2-2 and men on first and second and no outs. He got out of the inning.
The Apollos trailed 2-0 after 3 innings, then pinch hitter Anthony Phillips walked, stole 2nd, Andrew Dunn bunted for a hit, stole 2nd, Ryan Ondrey bunted, stole 2nd, Dane Yelovich bunted leaving score 2-2.
The Diamondbacks went to the pen and the Apollos scored 8 runs in the 5th. Kyle Eaves and Alex Ruiz reached base 3 times. Andrew Dunn had 3 rbis.
Game 4 Apollos 4 Katy Collegians 4 The Apollos took on the new Katy team at beautiful Katy Taylor High School.
The Apollos were visitor and Andrew Dunn and Kyle Eaves lead the game off with singles and stolen bases. Alex Ruiz K'ed, Abe Garcia drove in Dunn, Matt Warren K'd, Derek David walked and Shane Klemke lined out to the first baseman to end a threat and leave bases loaded.
In the third inning the Apollos Kyle Eaves singled, Alex Ruiz hit into a fielders choice, Abe Garcia tripled and Paul Johnson singled scoring 3 runs and giving the Apollos a 4-2 lead. Scoring chances would be tough in this game as the Katy Team used three different pitchers.The last chance was the 6th when Dylan Langammer walked with two out, made it to third on a wild pitch, Andrew Dunn struck out to end the inning.Casey Newman started for the Apollos and gave up two runs in the 2nd. He would give up another in the 3rd and pitch scoreless into the 7th, he allowed the first baserunner to reach and was pulled for Eric Faint. Faint got a strikeout and groundout, but then allowed a double that tied the game, before striking out the final batter to preserve a tie.. This was the first tie in team history since ties have been allowed (2008-Forward)..
Game 3 Apollos 7 Pearland Diamodbacks 2 Chad Mattis made his first start and shut out the Diamondbacks for 4 innings. The Apollos jumped on wild Diamondback pitching. Andrew Dunn singled and stole 2nd, Kyle Eaves walked, Warren K'ed, Garcia walked, Derek David walked leaving score 1-0 Paul Johnson and Dylan Langhammer K'ed to leave bases loaded. Int he 2nd Shane Klemke walked, Andrew dunn walked to leave score 3-0. In the third the Apollos broke it open. Klemke and Dunn again walked, Kyle Eaves singled, Matt Warren Doubled. Derek David tripled in the 4th leaving the game 7-0. The Apollos again attempted to put Kurt Parker in the game. Kurt walked three batters and gave up two runs in the top of the 6th inning as the game was called for 2:15 time limit
Game 2 Apollos 8 LC Hornets 7 Kurt Parker started this game for the Apollos walking the first two hitters on 8 pitches and then he gave a homer to the third batter. Bob Pfaff came in with the score 3-0. the Apollos answered in the bottom of the 1st, Kyle Eaves reached on an error, Alex Ruiz walked, Matt Warren singled, Abe Garcia singled, Paul Johnson singled leaving the score 3-3. Anthony Phillips doubled off the center field wall in the 2nd. Brandon Clark then doubled off the wall. Andrew Dunn had a bunt single and scored on Abe Garcia's sac fly. this left the score 6-3.
Abe Garcia homered in the 5th along with Paul Johnson's single stolen base scoring on Brandon Phillips sac fly.
Bob Pfaff held the hornets without another run through six innings. In the 7th again the umpires zone changed strikes were no longer called. The Apollos got into serious danger. Pfaff allowed a leadoff double, got a flyout then another hit. A groundout made two outs. Then a walk, a hbp and another double had the score 8-7. The Apollos called on Chad Mattis to come in and strike out a batter and that he did to end and save the game.
Game 1 Apollos 8 LC Hornets 5 The Apollos faced the League City Hornets to begin the 2009 NBC Campaign. The Apollos were vistors at Coastal Park. Andrew Dunn lead the game off with a double and advanced to third on Bob Pfaff's flyout.
The Hornets were at it again intentionally walking Alex Ruiz and Matt Warren hit into an inning ending double play. In the 2nd the Apollos broke it open with hits from Abe Garcia, Kyle Eaves, Zak Williams walked, Paul Johnson hit a run scoring fielders choice. Then Ryan Ondrey executed a hit and run driving in a run and leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd, Andrew Dunn singled in the runs leaving the score 4-1. The Apollos got the score up to 8-2. Starting pitcher Luke Cowan wore out after 3 innings in the heat. He left the game with men on 1st and 2nd and one out. Zak Williams threw 8 consective balls walking in a run, forcing Eric Faint to come in and close out the game. The Apollos held on.
