How bout those Apollos! The Apollos win the championship going 10-3-1. The Apollos had great defense, good hitting and an absolutely rock solid pitching staff anchored by Alex Dutka and David Trahan.
The team was lead offensively by many including Clifton Siems, Andrew Dunn, Kevin Hall, Mo Caesar.
Playoffs Game 6Apollos beat Metro Astros 8-7 to win the Fall Season Championship. The Apollos started the game off right with a grand slam by Kevin Hall knocking in Dunn, Clifton, and Jeremy. Eric also hit a double to knock in Trahan in the first. The Apollos coasted with the lead scoring two more runs in the sixth inning. Then the Astros decided they hadn't given up and came back to tie the game in the eighth with a string of hits and Apollo errors. The Apollos came back in the ninth when Clifton walked, stole and scored on a game winning single from Jeremy. The Apollos had 8 great innings of pitching from Alex, and Trahan earned a save with a great ninth inning. It was a real team effort to win the championship.
Playoffs Game 5Metro Astros beat Apollos 8-7. The Metro Astros scored 5 runs in the 3rd to take a 6-1 lead. Apollos tied score 7-7 in the 6th. The Metro Astros managed to steal a run in the top of the ninth. The Apollos couldn't score. Alex Dutka and Jeremy homered Andrew Dunn was 4-4 with 3 runs scored but in the end it wasn't enough.
Playoffs Game 4Winners bracket Championship Tiebreaker Apollos beat Metro Astros 4-3. The city league commisioner decided to have a 3 inning playoff to decide the tie. The Apollos went with ace Alex Dutka. Dutka walked two batters in the first before disaster occured. He gave up a three run bomb to the 5 hole hitter and the Apollos seemed buried. The Apollos scored two runs in the bottom of 2nd and had Dunn on second with no outs in the bottom of the third, however Mo Caesar lined into a double play with help from Dunn's poor baserunning. YARD!!!. In obviously dramatic fashion the Apollos live. The game remained scoreless for several innings until Alex Dutka walked, he was replaced by runner Jeff Murphy who stole 2nd on a fake bunt. Andrew Dunn then singled in Murphy who was nearly thrown out at the plate because he is so slow. Apollos win!!
Playoffs Game 3Winners bracket Championship----Apollos tie Metro Astros. The game was tied 4-4 after 8 innings and darkness set in. Clifton Siems hit another 3 run home run and pitched great. Oh those pesky Metro Astros just would not go away, they rallied and tied it.
Playoffs Game 2Apollos beat Mudcats 5-0. Alex Dutka really showed his stuff against the Mudcats shutting them out and striking out 7 guys. Alex threw for 9 innings. He was backed up by some solid defense from the Apollos. Mo Caesar made a remarkable diving catch in the outfield and led the team on offense. Mo had a double and single with 3 RBIs and one run scored. Andrew Dunn also doubled and singled and scored two runs for the Apollos. Clifton got on with a single and scored a run and Brandon scored another run and showed some good baserunning. Eric Morales also got an RBI.
Playoffs Game 1Apollos beat Red Sox 7-5. Alex Dutka pitched 5 innings for the win. He also had a huge bunt that lead to a big inning. James Magee had two hits. Kevin Hall nearly hit a bomb but it the bottom of the fence. Next game TBD vs Mudcats.
Game 8Apollos beat Cardinals 9-7. The Apollos fought hard to win this game also earning the Division Regular season championship. Jeff Murphy pitched for the Apollos and had a great game against the hard hitting Cardinals. The Apollos also had a great hitting game. In the third inning, the Apollos scored six with hits from Murphy, Connor, Dunn, Morales, and Trahan with Mo and Hall drawing walks. Mo Caesar had an especially good game scoring 3 runs with a a single, double, walk and got on base on an error. David Trahan earned the save pitching the last 2 innings only allowing 1 run and striking out 4 guys. This was the best game the Apollos played all season.
Game 7Apollos beat Skysox 3-2.
Alex Dutka allowed two runs in five innings, Then David Trahan came in and didn't allow a hit or a walk in two innings for the win. Andrew Dunn scored two runs. Jeff Murphy's sacrifice bunt turned out to be the winnner, in the bottom of the 7th. He bunted and the Skysox pitcher threw the ball into right field allowing Hamilton Simonton to score the winning run. The Apollos had a bad day at the plate, hitting into many double plays and squandering chance. Great game from Trahan.
Game 6Mudcats beat Apollos 11-6.
Drew Horsely threw 7 innings, allowing 7 runs. It was his first apperence in months. The umpiring was the worst in the history of the city league,Clifton Siems was nearly ejected several times. Andrew Dunn scored 4 runs on 3 hits with 5 steals. Jeff Murphy, Dwayne played great up the middle. AJ did a great job catching a doubleheader.
Game 5Apollos beat Metro Astros 12-8. Clifton Siems hit two three run homers and throw all 8 innings. He was very wild and didn't have a great outing. But he decided to make up for it with the homers. It was the first game of a doubleheader.
Game 4
Apollos beat Hurricanes 4-1. Alex Dutka pitched the first 5 innings with the first batter scoring the only run for the Hurricanes. The game remained 1-0 until the 7th inning when Alex singled to knock in AJ to tie the game. David Trahan hit a deep fly out that got away from the Hurricanes outfielder knocking in Kevin Hall, David Bell, and Alex to secure the Apollos victory. David pitched the last three innings earning the win.
Game 3
Apollos beat Bobcats 6-4. Alex Dutka pitched three shutout innings with six strikeouts to give the Apollos the win. Clifton was very wild giving up four runs in five innings. Andrew Dunn had two doubles and scored two runs. David Bell doubled in the tieing run. Dunn doubled in the winning run. The weather was very cold.
Game 2
Apollos beat Red Sox 11-1. Clifton Siems and Alex Dutka allowed one run in seven innings. Kevin Hall homered and singled getting 3 rbis.
Andrew, Hall and AJ scored 8 runs. The defense was ok, Eric Morales and James Magee made errors but all in all they were ok. James Magee also doubled for his first hit as an Apollo.
Game 1
Mudcats beat Apollos 6-2. Alex Dutka and James MaGee made their debuts on the mound for the Apollos. Andrew Dunn homered on the first pitch of the game. AJ Kotchavar had two hits. The Apollos defense was poor. Especially their outfield defense. In the Bottom of the 5th it started to pour down rain so the game was called. The Cats had several doubles and a homer and made no mistakes and no errors as usual.
