The revitalization of the New Orleans Tournament by Andrew Dunn, Locke Wheeler and James Broussette was a large success, great
weather, umpires, teams and fields lead to a successful tournament
Championship Game Hattiesburg Black Sox 10 Houston Apollos 8 The first ever Coastal Classic featured two 4-0 teams.
The Apollos had to make the 1-1/2 hour drive from Baton Rouge to Westwego.. 4 Apollos declined to make the drive leaving the
Apollos with 10 players. Marcus Moore started the game didn't get out of the first inning. Marcus gave up 3 runs and had the
bases loaded. Keyshawn "Ricky" Reed came to the rescue. Ricky came in and got out of the inning first leaving score 3-0.
The Apollos trailed 4-0 until the 4th, when Ricky Reed hit a single and scored. The Apollos scored 2 more runs when EJ hit a huge
two out single scoring two runners. The Apollos tie the game at 6 with Keyshawn Reed's inside the park HR scoring Andrew Dunn.
The Apollos went blow for blow with the big boys. The Apollos turned three double plays and played solidly except for the 8th
inning. The Apollos had the game tied in the 8th inning 6-6. In the bottom of the 8th Reed gave up a double and came out of the
game. Mike Wilson came on and the Black Sox bunted, Wilson threw the ball in the outfield allowing the 7th run to score and the
bunter got to third, the next hitter hit a ball in the infield that was booted by Drew allowing another run to score. After two
more singles the score was 10-6. Going into the top of the 9th the Apollos were going to face the hard throwing Hattiesburg
Closer. Mike Wilson welcomed him with a double, Keyshawn Reed singled. Seals K, Tim Brown triple, Brian Flew out to center and EJ
struck out to end the game. #11 for Hattiesburg did all of the damage with a massive homer and two shots off the fence.
Keyshawn Reed was named tournament MVP. Keyshawn pitched 6 innings allowing just 4 runs, despite two massive home runs, Keyshawn
stalled the powerful Black Sox Attack. Keyshawn had 5 hits including an inside the park homer and 3 stolen bases. The Apollos
played a brilliant tournament getting the most from every player who participated with great hitting, pitching and defense.
Semifinal Game Houston Apollos 19 New Orleans Blue Moose 1 This game was at 10 AM in Baton Rouge was the Moose had only 10
players. The Apollos started Mike Wilson who threw 4 innings allowing only 1 run. Kyle Spangler pitched a scoreless 5th as the
run rule was in effect. Kyle Spangler hit a grand slam, Mike Wilson hit a homer and a double. The moose were completely out of
pitching as the Apollos opened the game up in the 2nd.
Game 3 Houston Apollos 7 New Orleans Blue Moose 6
Ethan Brown started the game and threw 4 innings after he had thrown 4 in the previous game. Marcus Moore came in and pitched
3-2/3 innings. Mike Wilson had to be called on with a tie game in the 8th. Keyshawn Reed hit a home run in the 9th. Mike Wilson
threw the 9th for the win and the Apollos finished pool play 3-0 with three one run victories in the last inning. Andrew Dunn and
Kyle Spangler got key hits for the Apollos
Game 2 Houston Apollos 9 Red Stick Raiders 8
Again the Apollos found themselves in a big hole down 6-3 to Baton Rouge.
Andrew Dunn started on the mound and didn't fare well. He allowed two runs in the first and left bases loaded in the 2nd, Ethan
Brown came on and threw 7 innings completely dominiating the Baton Rouge team. The Baton Rouge starter #8 was dominant and he was
also the teams best hitter. The Apollos again waited for the opponent to goto the Bullpen. And they scored 4 in the 7th. With a
tie game of 8-8 going into the 8th the Apollos brought Mike Wilson in to get a save and played for tie. Wilson got three up three
down. Alex Ruiz reached on an error and Then Keyshawn hit a ball off the centerfield fence scoring Ruiz and giving the Apollos
their 2nd consective walkoff win.
Game 1 Houston Apollos 10 Baton Rouge Rebels 9
The Apollos made the drive the same day for a game at Baton Rouge, with Jesse Deleon a last second scratch the Apollos sent
Keyshawn Reed started and didn't get out of the 2nd inning. Baton Rouge dropped a 5 spot and had full control of this game. Andrew Dunn had 3 hits in this game, Porsche had 2 hits and reached twice.. In the
3rd Porsche singled, Dunn singled, and Wilson walked. Tim Brown hit a fly ball to center field that was dropped. Brian hit a sac
fly leaving the score 5-3. Baton Rouge extended the lead to 9-3 and thought the game was over. The Apollos scored two in the 6th
to leave the score 9-5. In the 7th Kyle Spangler hit a two run homer and left the score 9-7. The umpires announced time expired
in the 8th the Apollos were home and had one more chance. Seals drew a lead off walk, Porshce drew a walk, Dunn was intentional
walked. Mike Wilson hit a ball of the right field fence that would have ended the game but it was a ground rule double, Tim Brown
then singled in Andrew Dunn to end the game. Giving the Apollos a walk off win.
